Are Dentures Only for the Elderly?
Published January 10, 2022 8:56 pmWhen you picture a person who needs or who wears dentures what do you see? Many people would have the image of an elderly person in their mind. It could be because the only person they’ve ever met who has dentures is a senior, or it could be because whenever they’ve seen dentures in a movie or tv show, they were owned by someone older.
You may be surprised to find out that no, dentures are not just for elderly! The point of dentures is to replace lost teeth, and lost teeth can occur for many different reasons, not just because of old age.
Those Who Can Benefit from Dentures
Tooth loss can occur with old age, but it’s not the only way. Some people have medical conditions that result in missing teeth or that can cause tooth loss as a juvenile. There are also cases where poor dental hygiene as a child has resulted in tooth loss or the need to extract teeth due to a severe infection. In addition, some adults (not necessarily seniors) may need to get multiple teeth extracted due to serious dental concerns that can be remedied by other treatments. All of these people and scenarios could possibly benefit from dentures!
How to Know If Dentures Are Right for You
If you have one or more missing teeth, you may be wondering if dentures are the right option for you. After all, there are different types of dentures (like partial dentures and full dentures) as well as other tooth-replacement options out there.
